Survival, mortality, expected life time and competing risks

Workshop at the EDEG 2025 meeting, Saturday 17 May 2025, 9 - 14

The workshop is intended for young statisticians, epidemiologists and the like.
It will provide an overview of the concepts with a special view to generating results (numbers and graphs) in R
The workshop will (hopefully, as the title suggests) be relevant for persons that are working with follow-up data over time, be that clinical trials, cohort studies or register-based studies.

Price: Free of charge, but it requires that you arrange accommodation from the 16th since the workshop starts early on 17th.
Program for the workshop
Computing requirements:
- A couple of sheets of blank paper and a pencil (fountain pen if available)
- A computer with an installation of the latest R -version (4.4.1)
- with the latest versions of the Epi package (2.57)
- and the popEpi package (0.4.12).
Practicals with solutions. Includes the workshop program.
The workshop is built around the practicals document.
R code for all practicals.
Related to the workshop topics:
- Overview of basic concepts in survival analysis. A compressed overview of essential quantities and their interrelations.
- Epi package website. Links to vignettes from the package and notes on survival and multistate modeling.
- Epidemiology with R book website. Some of the workshop topics are covered in the book, but far from all. Lots of material in the book is not covered in this workshop. Bendix is the author of the book, so this is purely a commercial.
- Modern demographic methods in epidemiology website with links to earlier courses of similar content, with links to papers of relevance. Some really outdated, though.
- Practical Multistate Modeling with R and Epi::Lexis A draft book manuscript. This is work in progress, so prone to change at unexpected times. Nevertheless, any comments and suggestions are welcome.
